Who is Waxwing?

Hi. I’m Sergey Levchin, owner of and principal maker at Waxwing.

I started making furniture a little over a decade ago — first for myself, then for appreciative friends, and finally for paying strangers. By and by, what began as a pastime transitioned into a side gig, then main gig.

In a past appearance I had been trained as a literature scholar. By contrast, building furniture was a chance to create something tangible and unequivocal: the results either stood up on their four legs, or they did not. More than that, I had always had a taste for fine craftsmanship, and I liked the idea of living with objects crafted by my own hands.

In that same spirit, we offer our clients the opportunity to create furniture that suits their space, their needs, their aesthetic and their budget. Of course, we don’t expect you to come work with us in the woodshop, but we will work with you on the design until we have something that solves your particular problem.

Bring us an image of an existing piece that inspires you or a design idea sketched out on a napkin, or simply a set of requirements and measurements. Have a look at the Commission page to learn how the process works.

I look forward to working with you —
